These guys are from Helsinki and play dance floor jazz. All About Jazz just reviewed their new album Hot Corner. You can read it here.
It’s 2009! The Year of The Ox! Happy New Year! Looking back at 2008 aka the rat year, no one would say it’s in contention for Best Year Ever on a macro-level, but musically it was pretty decent. We started Layabozi which is Totally Awesome as you well know, and we dug good music. The heat also increased around the rock/indie rock/Yuyintang scene and The Shelter became the place for electronic dance music. I don’t understand the “underground” designation for those places except in the interior decorating sense, but it’s frequently applied to those places, so bravo for 2008: The Rise of Underground Music.
We’re going to start running a little feature every Thursday with our picks for the weekend’s events. We’ll keep the Live Dates section updated, of course, but here we’ll give you a little more information to help with the very difficult decision of which music to hear.
The Brits are the largest music awards in the UK. This year’s nominees have just been announced, with Coldplay and Duffy receiving the most, including for Best British Album. They are joined in that category by Elbow, Radiohead and The Ting Tings. If you’re not familiar with Brit-rock group Elbow, I thoroughly recommend checking out their latest album The Seldom Seen Kid, and lead singer Guy Garvey’s weekly radio show on BBC 6Music (most BBC material is available online for up to a week is after it is broadcast; check out Guy’s show here).
DJ Wash has the power of a drill; he can make the subterranean bass forces rise up from the very center of Gaia, resounding up, to your own center. Maybe a volcano erupting is the best analogy to the feeling one has when DJ Wash takes the control of the turntables. Kongkretebass with DJ Wash will be playing next Saturday 24th at The Shelter on Soundclash a triple battle with the terrific Sub-Culture, Phreaktion and Kongkretebass coming along with Blooddunza. To warm engines, check here DJ Wash own personal favorites on his very telluric playlist.
Mahler once said that a symphony should be like the world, and Alec had similarly grand intentions for this concert.
D.O.A. has been rocking hardcore since 1978, when punk was just beginning. They were there producing and collaborating with the movement that would influence music, films, books, and fashion; and, let’s not forget, cause trouble too. Their first album Hardcore ’81 produced a new first name for rock and punk. Last October D.O.A. released their newest studio album Northern Avenger, and with more than positive reviews they are now beginning their tour to promote the album and celebrate their thirty-year anniversary. After touring Canada, they have arrived in China and this Sunday will come to play in Yuyintang. Layabozi interviewed their leader and founder, Joe Shithead, who invited us all to “Come and have a wild unbridled time at D.O.A!” … +++ check new photos from the show at YuyinTang
