Tian (formerly, The Honeys) are a seminal band on the Shanghai scene. They have some new creative rumblings these days and Mache caught up with them recently to detail their journey up until now.
Give the drummer some!
“What We Learned From…” will be a new feature promoting bands who have come to Shanghai in association with the Expo. Now that all of our great venues are intact and countries are bringing their musical talent here to share, we thought it appropriate to document that process, week by week, country by country. This week we were invaded by Finland.
Attractive RoOtine, a multilingual “electrosteady” duo, used to be based in Shanghai, but now they have defected to Beijing, which is where Hajar tracked them down for an interview.
One cool thing about the Expo so far is that different countries have been taking turns taking over the city, one week at a time. This week it’s Finland, but that’s not to say there isn’t local flavor going on at the same time.
The Fever Machine (Dan Shapiro on vocals and guitar, Fabien Barbet on bass and vocals, and Miguel Bustamante on drums) have been gigging hard since they burst onto the scene back in March. They are headlining a killer bill of local acts this Saturday at Yuyintang.
From the Lazy Editor Archives: Emma appreciates the Shanghai treasure that is Cold Fairyland.
Last April 22nd ExitA played at Beijing’s YugongYishan and Betti Na was there shooting her first session for Layabozi. You can listen and download their music and find more about ExitA on their Douban Page.
