The weekend as we see it:

Thursday:

The Black Eyed Peaz, deliciously late

A Black Eyed Peas Tribute Band at Muse, anyone?

Anyone?

Life is Short – Just Be Sexy, 9PM

You’ve gotta wonder sometimes where they come up with the theme ideas for shows. I guess you could do worse than sex. Snake oil, for instance, doesn’t necessarily fly off the shelves. Anyways, tonight would be a good time to check out some bands from Lezi’s Zhu Lu He Feng label. They are doing stuff, including playing Yuyintang tonight. A bunch of bands are on hand, including Sonnet and Pinkberry.

Friday:

S.T.D. Third Anniversary, 8PM

S.T.D. has a way of infecting us with new live music that we didn’t even know we liked for three years now. Danger and Lymbyc Systym, for example, are unknowns to me. But I am sure they will be interesting at the very least. In addition: Pet Conspiracy (sans Helen, unfortunately), Boys Climbing Ropes, The Fever Machine, R3 v. LIman, LON, llnd, Li Daiguo, and a buttload of other DJs. What constitutes a buttload? you might ask. A lot, dude. A LOT.

In lieu of a slew of band pages, how ’bout I just throw you over to S.T.D.’s Myspace page.

MAO Livehouse, 570 Huaihai Xi Lu, 120 RMB presale/150 door

The Dead Vikings, 9PM

Three reasons to see this Japanese rock band tonight at Yuyintang, rather than the next night at LOgO:

1) X is Y.  Guillaume and Fabien will charm you with their ever-improving mathiness

2) Pairs. The lo-fi glammer this pair presents will make you move. And dude might just smash his head into his cymbals.

3) LOgO is LOgO and the sound will be shit.

Saturday:

Arabyrd and Cee, late

The press release for this show at Shelter exhorts fans to “get barefoot.” If you decide to follow this advice, kiss your feet goodbye because you will almost certainly contract a horrible, horrible disease that even House, MD won’t be able to decipher. Anyways, bassy music from Malaysia and Germany, as well as Uprooted DJs, await you, shod or not.

The Shelter, 5 Yongfu Lu, 50 RMB

Zha Nao Mang the 5th, 9PM

A free show at MAO hosted by Jagermeister. The last time this happened the place was jam-packed and there was a horrible faux game show halfway through Candy Shop’s set. Tonight’s lineup includes Bang Bang Tang, Baby Number 13, and MOMO. Get your drink on.

Li Daiguo and Hassan, evening

Li Daiguo, the multi-instrumentalist from the US, now based in Chengdu, is playing a couple shows this weekend at the Wooden Box. Details are few and far between, but he will be playing there with Hassan Saturday night.

Don’t forget about the second show, this time with an Australian guitarist.

Complete the following statement:

Ain’t no party like a Xintiandi party ‘cuz a Xintiandi party <blank>.

What would you go with here? “Is horrendously overpriced”? “Attracts a lot of Frenchies”? Whatever the answer, at this party you can see a bunch of bands with a French Connection: Drum and Bass from Gong Gong, reggae from Lions of Puxi, rock from Weghur, and intercontinental schlock from Dantes. The info is only given as “South Block of Xintiandi” so just head over there and then follow your nose.

Here’s some more info.
