Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes! This Thursday two classics are shaking Shanghai’s music scene Logo will open for a last breath on Xingfu rd. and Alec Haavik and the Friction will have their last but one gig at JZ.
WEDNESDAY JANUARY 14TH

While you read this download and listen to Break For Borneo‘s new album Life Gets in the Way released just yesterday.
THURSDAY JANUARY 13TH
JZ – Alec Haavik and The Friction
Said on Alec’s words:
“I have decided to stop my band’s weekly Thursday gig at JZ. This has not been an easy decision, because my JZ gig has been a joy and a blessing for me. My music has blossomed and developed, and all the fine musicians who have joined me have put their beautiful hearts and souls and fine ears into it. But in order for my music to continue to evolve, I need to take time away from my most beloved venue.
We will play two more Thursdays — Jan 13 and Jan 20 — before the hiatus begins. You are invited to come by and enjoy these last two Thursdays before the next phase of Friction commences.”
Alec’s gig at JZ became a standard of Shanghai jazz scene, I can’t imagine how is going to be for Alec and The Friction after this, but he’s a wise cat and sure this will bring new adventures, colors and textures for The Friction to explore and transform into more incredible sounds. Anyway, this is a big change, and one not to miss for those who love music in Shanghai.

13 Xingfu rd. – Logo!!!!!!!!
What? Yes! Logo will open tomorrow! And just for tomorrow. Xingfu rd. 13 is having its last day under the power of Taipei and Maxim. It’s not going to be possible to use the spot for a coffee shop, or a record store, or nothing that will honor the energy that Logo brought to that spot. So they are giving it away, and to use it for a last time, they are opening it tomorrow. The night will be first commanded by the reggae crew that missed the closing show last October, and later we’ll see what brings the night.
Due to this new change of plans Lune will die and Logo will take Lune’s place. How exactly? Well, Maxim said we should wait, soon the walls of Lune will start to change and transform in Logo walls. It’s a bit difficult to imagine how’s that going to happen, but they already decided it. They will kill Lune and let Logo come back there. Taipei and Maxim evaluated the idea to move Logo to Dagu rd. (Beedee’s street too) but at the end the decision was clear, they can’t do it for now, the investment they did at Lune was big, and they can’t afford to open a whole new place yet. So, they went for the option of keeping Logo alive, and bye bye Lune.
Anyway, the big news for now is that tomorrow Thursday we’ll have the chance to be at Logo once more. I wonder if it’ll be like going to a museum, or like traveling to the past, or like hanging with friends in our living room. I’ll see you there!
