DJ Cavia is one of the cool peeps of Shanghai’s electronic music scene, we specially like that his sets fall into different styles of music, he is a flexible bird with a cool sense of humor, and a broad, respectable, and eclectic taste in music that can positively surprise well educated ears.
To Cavia music is a “way to connect with the vast world outside his tiny sphere”. The legend says Cavia was 20 years old when he listened to DJ Shadow’s “In Tune In Time”, and right on the spot Cavia dropped out of school, bought two turntables, and started his adventure. Two years later he won the China DMC DJ Championship, and flew to the DMC World Championship in London. He says he is not anymore into the battle scene, but into producing, though still… he “lives for a challenge”.
Cavia has played in all the big festivals in Shanghai, he is also part of The Antidote, and ROM, and last year he created Otakrew, a music collective with “most wanted DJs and producers of Shanghai”, Otakrew has already shared stages with big ones, including Cavia’s hero DJ Shadow.
About this awesome mix he did specially for us, Cavia says “This mix was done when I feel there are too many so called fashionable ”indie” music, too many pitchfork, too many fake daft punk sound, and too many grace. I’m focus on the dark and raw, sometimes funny though, the real rock ‘n roll power.” And of course, we love that.
No more words. Play to bang.
