MIDI Update

April 18th, 2013 by

In twelve days China will begin to quake at metal rhythm, and it will last for three weekends. MIDI is coming.

These are the news.

MIDI Shenzhen festival mutated to become an old school festival like Italian’s San Remo, where artists compete to win a trophy and money.

Last weekend in Shenzhen MIDI held a contest were sixteen bands from Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Hainan, Shantou, Shaogun, Changsha, Xiamen, Hong Kong, and other cities played to win a spot on the final at MIDI Shenzhen. Five judges selected eight bands that will play on April 20th at MIDI, the bands are: 他们是伟大科学家 (Scientists) (Sanya)VETO-WAY (Guangzhou), LTOS e-missions (Shantou), Nomad (Shenzhen), counter/NiLiu (Hong Kong), Deep Inside (Hong Kong), a gorgeous jacket (Changsha), but before the fall (Xiamen).

At the end of the festival three bands will win. The prize is a trip to Beijing to stay there for two months and join music classes for two months, and it includes the place to stay for these three bands.

MIDI is doing a great work to inaugurate their Shenzhen edition putting together a giant line up with headliners of the size of Yaksa, Escape Plan, XTX, and Cui Jian.

MIDI Beijing has found a location, the China Music Valley Grassland Park (Beijing Yuyang International Ski Resort,Pinggu District,Dong Gao Cun Zhen, Da Wang Wu Cun,No.688). There will be five stages, a lot of green areas, and space where the sponsors will install their games zones, the usual flea market, and probably even a space for UFO landing, or do some circle cropping if you want.

MIDI Shanghai, and MIDI Beijing have already confirmed their full line up, some of the bands featured this year are Yaksa, Suffocate, SMZB, Daydreamer, Mr. Firework, Tomahawk, Magic Lion, D-A-D (Denmark), Amoral (Finland), Emergency Gate (Germany), Hogan Band (United Kingdom), Manceau (France), Bubble Beatz (Switzerland).

One of the headliner of this year is the rebel core band Yaksa. They will play at each of the three MIDI of 2013.
