Pause:Music, a Record Label for Shanghai
Pause:Music is the new record label for Shanghai’s musicians. It’s the result of the good work done by Gareth Williams (The Shelter), Michael Michael (Antidote) and B6 (Antidote and NeoCha). Layabozi talked with Gareth about Pause:Music projects and ideas, as a preparation to get ready for tonight launch of the label at Shelter. Read all about it here.
Remembering the Rat
It’s 2009! The Year of The Ox! Happy New Year! Looking back at 2008 aka the rat year, no one would say it’s in contention for Best Year Ever on a macro-level, but musically it was pretty decent. We started Layabozi which is Totally Awesome as you well know, and we dug good music. The heat also increased around the rock/indie rock/Yuyintang scene and The Shelter became the place for electronic dance music. I don’t understand the “underground” designation for those places except in the interior decorating sense, but it’s frequently applied to those places, so bravo for 2008: The Rise of Underground Music.
2009 Brit Award nominations are out…
The Brits are the largest music awards in the UK. This year’s nominees have just been announced, with Coldplay and Duffy receiving the most, including for Best British Album. They are joined in that category by Elbow, Radiohead and The Ting Tings. If you’re not familiar with Brit-rock group Elbow, I thoroughly recommend checking out their latest album The Seldom Seen Kid, and lead singer Guy Garvey’s weekly radio show on BBC 6Music (most BBC material is available online for up to a week is after it is broadcast; check out Guy’s show here).
