The Greatest Video You’ve Ever Seen 005: The Mr. Ghetto Trilogy

It’s quite possible that the collective strength of these videos will explode this venerable website, but I’m going to go ahead and risk it because these must be seen. It’s the right thing to do

I believe I professed my fascination with ass clapping back in TGVYES 003. So here we go with a triple shot of baby got back.

I can’t really tell if these videos are parodies or deadly serious, which is what I really love about them.

I would not be terribly surprised if I found out that they were clever comments on the blinging, objectifying hip hop video culture, which would make them brilliant. I would also not be shocked if they were dead serious, ghetto fabulous echoes of Rembrandt’s oeuvre.

Whatever the answer, it is clear that this post represents a crossroads for TGVYES.

Is the column to degenerate into a macabre crow, whose unblinking eye trains itself on every disgusting, decayed piece of flesh that shimmies onto the screen?

Probably. Maybe. I don’t know. We’ll see.

Nonetheless, let’s see The Mr. Ghetto Trilogy, The Greatest Videos You’ve Ever Seen

[Editor’s Note: These videos are on Youtube, and unless you are login you won’t be able to see them… I guess, you have to assure them you are aware and able to watch them]

Lion King Bounce

Jailhouse Bounce

I think Mr. Ghetto’s rap delivery is reminiscent of the works of modern American composers Steve Reich and Philip Glass, in that the repetition of his phrasing takes you to other places. It’s kind of like the bouncing ass cheeks; they always go up and down (except when they’re going side to side or round and round) but they never go in quite the same way.

Actually, I don’t think that. I just think they’re weird videos.

And I hope you enjoyed them.

If you’ll excuse me, I’m going to Wally Wally Wally Wally Wally World.
