The fantastic news that R. Kelly is going to continue his R n’ B telenovella “Trapped in the Closet” inspired this week’s The Greatest Video You’ve Ever Seen.
“Trapped in the Closet” is an insane, off the hook, ultra-entertaining musical soap opera, or hip-hopera, conceived by Kels and his alter ego Sylvester. It is fascinating viewing and, if you haven’t already, I urge you to catch up on the series from Episode 1 all the way up to 22. Hell, even if you have seen it, just go ahead and watch it again.
This news got me thinking about R. Kelly himself, the man, the myth, the artist. He is, to be frank, a complicated man. His life seems to be constantly swirling with controversy, like the secret marriage to a 15-year old Aaliyah in 1994 or the charges of him treating a minor to golden showers on multiple occasions and on videotape (for which he was charged and acquitted in 2008).
Let’s let comedian Aziz Ansari give you an account of his poor judgment, as well as a reenactment of his outrageous live act.
Despite all this brouhaha, we also know that R. Kelly is a fascinating, prolific artist, as well as a genuine nut-ball. In the world of TGVYES, those two factors score you double points, especially when you commit all of that wonderful foolishness to tape and someone places it on Youtube.
Since R. Kelly seems to have an opinion on almost anything and everything, his views on a wide range of subjects are taking over The Greatest Video You’ve Ever Seen this week. Here now, is The Universe According to Kels.
