The Analog Girl "Melodious Ritual"

The Analog Girl released this year her second album, the EP “Songs from Sometime Next Galaxy”, reviewed here, mastered by Mandy Parnell in London who has worked with rock and pop luminaries like Feist, Sigur Ros and Depeche Mode.At the beginning of 2008 she was tagged by Time magazine as one of the five music acts to watch from Asia, from Singapore, The Analog Girl is softly conquering the world. Since her beginnings before 2002 she’s been kept under near vigilance by the world press because of the interesting sound of her music and her artsy approach to electronic.

The Analog Girl, was born and raised in Singapore and from there she is creating her music. She started learning classical piano from the age of 5 and at 7 years old she wrote her first song. On 2002 she launched her music career as The Analog Girl, as she tells it: “I was working in television at the moment as a producer and decided that I should focus on what I love to do which is making music and performing. So I just did it!”

These days she’s getting ready to begin the work on her next album. And we are getting ready for the coming days broadcast on Pacha TV, where soon all her music videos will be played. While we wait, we got The Analog Girl’s playlist and her story about it.

1. Nina Persson of The Cake Sale – Black Winged Bird

This is perfect for a movie soundtrack – a song I want to have playing in my head when walking down the street and observing life around me.

2. Scarlett Johansson – Falling Down

[gplayer href=”″ ] 2. Scarlett Johansson “Falling Down” [/gplayer]

No matter what people say, I still love the Tom Waits covers album by Scarlett Johansson. Her teaming up with TV On The Radio’s Dave Sitek is absolutely charming.

3. PJ Harvey – When Under Ether

[gplayer href=”″ ] 3. PJ Harvey “When Under Eher” [/gplayer]

I can fall asleep to this and feel safe in my dreams.

4. Cat Power – The Greatest

A classic from Chan Marshall – the muse of many.

5. Damien Rice – 9 Crimes

[gplayer href=”″ ] 5. Damien Rice “9 Crimes” [/gplayer]

The lyrics cut and sink themselves deep into your soul – whether you are guilty or not, 9 Crimes is a heart-wrenching love song.

6. Lykke Li – Everybody But Me (diskJokke Remix)

[gplayer href=”″ ] 6. Lykke Li “Everybody But Me (DiskJokke Remix)” [/gplayer]

Lykke’s been making waves in the indie music scene and she’s making me dance and want to throw a cake party with this number.

7. Ladyhawke – Paris Is Burning

[gplayer href=” ParisIsBurning.mp3″ ] 7. Ladyhawke “Paris is Burning” [/gplayer]

Very rare do you come across a song that works well both on the dance floor and in your living room. This one does. And she looks cool in that video too.

8. Lucky Dragons – Morning Ritual

[gplayer href=”″ ] 8. Lucky Dragons “Morning Ritual” [/gplayer]

Therapeutic sequences of sounds and candy-coloured waveforms permeating my system towards a calmer state of mind.

9. Feist – The Park

[gplayer href=”] 9. Feist “The Park” [/gplayer]

This is something I like to put on when I feel like taking an instant trip to the park to watch the leaves fall.

10. The Analog Girl – Skylight Boulevard

When I wrote this song, I was picturing a slow drive in the night underneath sprays of moonlight through amber trees. It is also an intergalactic love anthem for the modern generation.
