May Holidays Were No Holiday for Music

Some of my friends are sad that last weekend is over already and some others are happy it is finally over. Last weekend China was invaded by music, it’s been a non-stop music trip since Layabozi began its operations, and the ride is getting more intense every time. One would imagine after a year of this we would already be used to these “rush-hour” weeks of music, but still sometimes it’s overwhelming.

This May holiday will be packed with events, the Midi Festival in Zhenjiang, Straight Oota Canada here in Shanghai, and also here in Shanghai is the World Music Festival, which is apparently some kind of proto-Expo thing. Here’s the line-up:

Komodo, the Iridescent Dragon, on the Way to Dragon Lands

Among the many things Komodo has done on his career, he worked with Cirque du Soleil for the world premiere of “Kà”, and also with Peter Murphy on his album from 2002 Dust, which was a very interesting album of this icon of goth rock. Komodo will be playing at The Shelter this Friday on the mini dub festival. D.O.A. Tours China

D.O.A. has been rocking hardcore since 1978, when punk was just beginning. They were there producing and collaborating with the movement that would influence music, films, books, and fashion; and, let’s not forget, cause trouble too. Their first album Hardcore ‘81 produced a new first name for rock and punk. Last October D.O.A. released their newest studio album Northern Avenger, and with more than positive reviews they are now beginning their tour to promote the album and celebrate their thirty-year anniversary. After touring Canada, they have arrived in China and this Sunday will come to play in Yuyintang.
