We have been saying for some weeks now that the music scene in Shanghai is pretty hectic! Because we are only ducks and not octopuses, we occasionally have to ask for help, and Leo from Free the Wax has lent us some of his free time with this one. Free the Robots will play this Saturday at YuYinTang, and we wanted to tell you what kind of robots they are freeing, and about the music they will play for us; so we made an exception from our rules (sorry boss) and asked Leo to do the interview for us himself. And, yes, be careful, Free the Robots are freeing some wax on Saturday at YuYinTang. (!)
You know the score, but this week there’s an bonus Conflict of Interest Pick!
Some of my friends are sad that last weekend is over already and some others are happy it is finally over. Last weekend China was invaded by music, it’s been a non-stop music trip since Layabozi began its operations, and the ride is getting more intense every time. One would imagine after a year of this we would already be used to these “rush-hour” weeks of music, but still sometimes it’s overwhelming.
If you’re here this weekend, read this and you will know what it means to be fested.
The Midi Music Festival, the biggest rock show in China, is celebrating its 10th anniversary, and this year takes place in Zhejiang. The line up has recently been revealed and we have it here for you. We’ve got links to the bands you don’t know and want to know, and info on how to get yourself to Zhejiang. Also, if you are going on a road trip let us know!

Here’s my review of what they did with Cut Off!:
Dark.
Very Dark.
I think its safe to put this in the Gothic Rock section.
The place was packed and it was only 9pm. With the new renovations Yuyingtang’s manager Durn (Haisheng) has been working on, a lot more folks can squeeze in to get their live fix, and over 400 turned up for the show Saturday night. After getting us all excited with Yoi and Pinkberry, nice and cozy with Wild Cat (the Asian rock team), and then revved up with Crazy Mushroom slinging us around from a whisper to a scream, Hedgehog made a big entrance.
The doctor’s prescription is: music.
