The best of the best this weekend, as selected by your friendly but eccentric uncle Mike.
The weekend as we see it.
It’s a little thin this week, perhaps due to World Cuppage. However, let that not deter you from seeing awesome performers like the Subs and The Swedish Radio Symphony.
Holy Crap! Today is Brazil day at the Expo? In the same week as German day? I was hoping for a little more volume to Brazil day, but Carlinhos Brown and Mart’nália are not people to shake sticks at.
In which “The Expo Strikes Back”! Also, dude, I’m OD’ing on gigs right now. Shanghai, are you trying to be a real music city or something?
I defy Dan Shapiro. Though of course the expo could have more awesome music, there’s definitely more awesome stuff than usual, and now that it seems no clubs are getting shut, the only lame thing about it (musically, anyway. I can relate to the idea that it’s too much money to spend on this kind of thing) is that Topfloor Circus got shut down. I mean, as wrong as that is, I’ll take Herbie Hancock and Cafe Tacvba.
Well hey, it looks like music spots aren’t closing after all, and there’s bunches of stuff going on, so enjoy it.
Ah, spring. It’s finally happening. Stuff’s in bloom all over and there is a lot going – May Day, festival season, the evil Expo, Club Obama, etc.
